This presentation is based on research and field observation of the historic School Street Neighborhood of Manchester, culminating in the August 2025 School Street Neighborhood Historic Properties Survey. The neighborhood is defined by School Street between Friend Street to the south and Lincoln Avenue to the north.  It includes the blocks extending to the east, including Desmond, Brook and Vine, south to north, and includes scattered properties on School between Lincoln and the Yankee Division Highway, Route 128.  The neighborhood, historically and in terms of its architectural character, is a primarily residential extension of the town center to the south and west, reflecting the progression of development that took place between the 18th and early 20th centuries as the center expanded north and east.
