About the event

Manchester Harbor has been an important natural element of the town's economy since early days, accommodating vessels for both business and pleasure, and subject to man-made alteration and maintenance.  Harbormaster Bion Pike will present attendees with photographs going back to 1895, when the modern harbor was created by dredging, and relate its key developments since that time.

Regarding the speaker's expertise, there is hardly an area of maritime activity that Bion has not tackled.  With a background and training in criminal justice, emergency management and boating safety, Bion has been deeply involved with teaching and curriculum development and has taken on many volunteer roles in Maine and Massachusetts towns.  His interest in maritime pursuits led to roles as Captain of a Downeast windjammer; First Mate on a sail training vessel out of Mystic Seaport; Dock Master in Salem; Harbormaster of Kittery, Maine; and currently our well-respected Harbormaster of Manchester-by-the-Sea.

But that…
