About the event
The Manchester-by-the-Sea Museum recently acquired a small bronze sculpture created by early 20th century sculptor Anna Coleman Ladd. Ladd lived in Boston and owned a studio in Manchester where she created many remarkable works. When the Great War broke out in 1918, she was inspired to use her artistic skills to create face masks for soldiers who had been horribly disfigured in the War. Although much of Ladd's work has been lost, a few pieces remain, notably two bronze plaques commissioned by the Manchester-by-the-Sea American Legion which can be seen on the war memorial in Manchester's Rosedale Cemetery.
