Our Lemons

Our story starts with none other than George Washington and his prized lemon trees at Mount Vernon.

In xx our Abigail Hooper Trask visited Mount Vernon and brought home three lemons from George's trees as a souvenir of her visit.

Today Abigail's three lemons are on display in the Museum in the recently renovated parlor room of Abigail and her husband, Capt. Richard Trask.

Historical value aside, these petrified citrus fruits are worth some money.  Not too long ago, a 300-year-old lemon was on auction in London.  "Some 35 bidders vied for the item... from as far away as Maine and Moldova." The hammer price of the winning bid was  $1,788.

Today, with a nod to Abigail's and George's lemons, the Museum hosts Tea by the Sea -- serving lemonade, lemon cake, and ice tea -- on summer weekends.
